Value-priced portable introduces a pair of industry-first technologies for fleet class systems, shares many components with Gateway Solo 9100 notebook
This Gateway Solo 2300 notebook also shares a number of components with the industry leading Gateway Solo 9100 notebook, including batteries, AC chargers, system memory, and docking stations. This common modularity is a feature often requested by corporate accounts managing large deployments of notebook computers. Sales and shipments of Gateway Solo 2300 portables begin immediately.
The Gateway Solo 2300 portable also brings together a number of leading subsystems in a value priced mobile product. In addition to the 12-cell lithium ion battery and SDRAM memory are the Intel® Pentium® and Pentium with MMXTM technology processors; 12.1" TFT Active Matrix LCD display, modular CD-ROM and floppy disk drives, a fast NeoMagic® 128-bit graphic accelerator video subsystem, two USB ports which take advantage of the increasing variety of high-technology peripherals on the market, Zoomed Video port, CardBus support, and NTSC output.
"Our mobile products serve broad segments of the market," said Bob Burnett, director of mobile systems. "Consumers typically want the latest technology and highest performance that they can get. Corporations want platform stability with interchangeable components. The new Gateway Solo notebook family well addresses both sets of needs. And no matter what market segment they come from, users get personally customized, reliable systems with world class support. That's the kind of value Gateway packs with every PC it sells."
Common Components
The new Gateway Solo 2300 notebook shares the same system memory, battery packs, AC charge cubes and docking stations as the recently released Gateway Solo 9100 multimedia system. Future Gateway Solo products are expected to share some of the same components as well."Gateway designs its mobile products to use as many shared components as possible from one product to the next," said Dave Berger, director of product marketing, Americas. "Our customers benefit now from great technology. They benefit long-term thanks to the lower costs of managing a stable platform with key components common to several products. These are great features to find in a volume class notebook."
Common Docking Stations
Every Gateway Solo notebook has a standard 168-pin docking connector that links to the Gateway Solo full dock or mini-docking stations. The Gateway Solo full dock station offers two standard ISA or PCI card slots, an internal 3.5-inch drive bay, an external 5.25-inch drive bay, two Type II and one Type III PC Card slots, a removable monitor stand and external ports including a MIDI/joystick port. The Gateway Solo mini-docking station replicates the ports on the back of the notebook and also includes two Type II and one Type III PC Card slots."Our customers have told us they are concerned about the total cost of ownership," said Burnett. "We listened and designed notebooks and docking stations that signify both a substantial commitment to our customers and an attempt to reduce the obsolescence of the notebook and docking station."
